Veterans Hospital update

Public Law 112-94 the Strategic Capital Investment Plan of 2012During the closing of the year, veterans received good news from Washington DC.  On December 23, 2011, President Barack Obama signed Public Law No. 112-94.  This made House Bill 2055 law.  Veterans are reminded that Congressman Henry Cuellar attached his HB 1318 to this bill back in June 2011.  The title of 2055 was the Military…See More

Conference Committee on HB 2055

Veterans Listen Up!We are so close that the only thing that can spoil our luck is a blowout by a legal technicality. As you may remember, this past summer, Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX-28) filed a bill HB 1318 asking for a Full Service Medical Center and other benefits for south Texas veterans.  His bill was send to the House Committee of Veterans Affairs.  In the meantime, Cuellar made a strategically good move when he moved to attach his legislation to the Military and Veterans Affairs and…See More

It all quiet in the southern front

All of a sudden the efforts to bring a VA hospital to the valley have come to almost a stand still.  It appears that just about everyone thinks that we have won and that we are indeed getting a Full Service Medical Center.  I think that veterans should be cautious on this assumption.Senator Cornyn's bill S 396 is brief and to the point.  But it must be passed at the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee and onto the full floor of the Senate.  This is something that has never been done before.  All…See More

Veterans Day

On November 11, thousands of valleyites praised and thanked the Veterans of our Armed Forces. Special events were held in just about every school, town, civic organization and of course at Veteran posts and chapters.  All remember the sacrifice.  All remember what many veterans have gone through.  All remember that veterans have sacrificed a little of their lives for the price of freedom.. Veterans stood the watch. After the events, many returned home and most forgot about veterans.  One of the…See More
